On Friday, April 11th a ceremonial Groundbreaking event was held to celebrate the start of construction for the long-awaited and much-needed $8.5 million renovation and expansion to our West Barnstable YMCA facility. The groundbreaking event represented a major milestone in our Y Capitalize Campaign which to date has raised $7.2 million in gifts, pledges and financing. This special event honored and showed appreciation to the donors who are responsible for this achievement. Over 200 guests, business and community leaders, and Y friends joined us for this event. The completed project will add more than 18,500 square feet of space to our Y building and address programmatic needs, membership services, child watch activities, changing facilities, reception and parking areas. The improvements will also bring our facility into full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Construction will begin in May and the entire project is slated for completion by the summer of 2009.
2008 promises to be an exciting year of continued milestones for the YMCA Cape Cod. Get out your hard hats and shovelsÉ a new YMCA Cape Cod is on the way!

Campaign To Begin In August
At the YMCA Cape Cod, one of our most important goals has always been to enrich the lives of kids in our community. But when some are left out, it leaves us all a bit poorer. As a person with vested interest in the future of your community, you can help these kids grow into responsible, successful adults. YMCA activities help children develop valuable skills, gain confidence, and build self-esteem. By contributing to the YMCA Cape Cod's Reach Out For Youth Campaign, you can help us teach these young people such important values as caring, honesty, responsibility, and respect and make a special kind of change in the community with every dollar donated.
