YOUTH CLASSES

The YMCA of the USA developed the character development program with other community organizations to focus on developing positive values in children. All our Youth Sports programs embrace the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility Youth programs and leagues provide a balanced curriculum of healthy competition and personal growth in a fun-learning environment. VACATION ADVENTURE CLUB
At YMCA Camp Lyndon Center in Sandwich. Age 9 to 15 years. Adventure, learning and discovery are what we have planned for your child. Daily field trips will be combined with traditional camp activities with an educational and recreational focus. Past trips included rock climbing at Carabiners, mini golf, bowling, and much more! VACATION FUN CLUB
At YMCA Route 132, W. Barnstable. Age 5 to 9 years. VFC offers daily field trips and a variety of educational and play activities, including pool time. Past trips included Chuck E. Cheese, museums in Boston, a Paw Sox game, roller skating, and the Zooquarium! For more information contact Katherine at 508-362-6500 x115.

APRIL VACATION - "ALL SPORTS CAMP"
Ages 5-10. Located at our Camp Lyndon Facility. T- ball, Coach-Pitch Baseball, Flag Football, and Soccer are all the focus of this camp. This is a great opportunity for kids to experience multiple sports. We use a coaching approach emphasizing skills of the game, while also fostering good sportsmanship. YMCA JUNIOR GOLF LESSON

Classes begin on May 13th for 7 weeks
Classes will be held on Thursdays ~ 4:30pm to 5:30 pm
Last Class 9 Holes on Sunday June 20th, Bring your clubs if you have them.

The schedule for the seven weeks will be as follows:
Week (1) basic full swing Instruction followed by putting instruction
Week (2) chipping instruction followed by skills competition
Week (3) pitching instruction followed by skills competition
Week (4) punch shots instruction followed by skills competition
Week (5) full swing instruction with video
Week (6) full swing instruction followed with video
Week (7) Sunday, June 20th ~ 9 hole team competition- included in price

T-BALL LEAGUES
Ages 4-5. Your child will have fun and learn basic fundamentals of baseball through our co-ed T-Ball league. YMCA T-Ball draws the focus away from winning at all costs and instead teaches children teamwork, individual growth, and basic rules of t-ball. Players will learn the fundamentals of batting and catching using drills, and playing the game. T-Ball is held at both Camp Lyndon and Marstons Mills. FLAG FOOTBALL
Ages 7-11 YMCA Flag Football "Huddle Up" for Fun! This league focuses on teamwork and fair play. We use smaller footballs for smaller hands; modified rules for safer play; and fewer players on the field for greater success. This fun football league is no contact and players have fun while learning the fundamentals of flag football. Flag Football is held at our Camp Lyndon facility. YOUTH SPORTS PACKAGE
T-ball, coach-pitch baseball league, spring & fall soccer, and our winter basketball league are all included in your year-round "All Star" youth sports package! This is a great opportunity for kids to experience multiple sports. The YMCA has a unique approach to youth sports emphasizing skills and character development in a low competitive environment. NEW COACH-PITCH LEAGUE
Ages 6-8. Foster a Red Sox fan by introducing your child to the game of baseball! This co-ed league is the next step up from t-ball. This league promotes fair play, positive competition, family involvement and sports for all. Your child will learn baseball fundamentals such as teamwork, batting techniques, throwing form and catching. Coach-Pitch Baseball is held at both Camp Lyndon and Marstons Mills. MUNCHKIN SOCCER LEAGUES
Ages 4 & 5 years. Take the fun outdoors! Soccer is an exciting sport combining- team play and individual skills. YMCA co-ed soccer promises no tryouts. Every child plays while learning the basic fundamentals of soccer through instruction, drills, and playing the game. Players will learn how to work as a team and the fundamentals of passing and shooting. Soccer is held at both Camp Lyndon and Marstons Mills. Registration runs through March 19. YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUES
Ages 6 to 8 years. Take the next step in our Youth Soccer League! Our co-ed league allows young players to enjoy soccer in a positive and fun environment. Players will enhance their soccer skills and' team spirit and players will learn through instruction, drills, and playing the game. Soccer is held at both Camp Lyndon and Marstons Mills. KIDS NIGHT OUT
At YMCA Route 132, W. Barnstable. Age 6 to 10 years. Friday nights just got a little more fun with our new Sportwall and XerDance programs! When we're done working up a sweat, we'll cool off in the pool. Other activities include a talent show, flashlight tag, dance party and games.

YOUTH XERGAMES
Ages 7 to 9 years. For all fitness levels. Looking for a fun way to workout with friends? Come and experience the new Sport Wall and Xerdance System and take part in a brain and body fitness program. Follow along with computer choreographed dance routines that help to increase core strength, balance and coordination. Mix in some sport wall training to improve cardiovascular fitness, speed agility, spatial awareness and reaction time. Join in the fun ... This workout is an all new experience!

KARATE
Age 7 yrs. and up. Tang Soo Do Karate offers a well-rounded way to better yourself physically and mentally. It also helps build strength and flexibility, confidence,

 


YSL = YOUTH SWIM LESSONS

The following classes represent a continuum along which each child can move toward increasing proficiency and enjoyment in the water. The focus is on a student-centered approach based in guided discovery teaching methods. Swimming skills, endurance and water safety principles are taught in all levels.

It is not uncommon to spend a year or more in the same level. YSL are for children who have completed kindergarten AND are in 1st grade.

If you are unsure of the correct level for which you should register, you may arrange a swim screening by calling Aquatics Director Jeff Falk at 508-362- 6500 x 103.


YSL POLLIWOG
Age 6 years and in 1st grade and up
Main or Small Pool. For beginners without experience or with limited skills.

YSL GUPPY
Age 6 years and in 1st grade and up Main Pool. For advanced beginners who are comfortable in the Main Pool.

YSL MINNOW
Age 6 years and in 1st grade and up Main Pool. For advanced beginners to develop a rudimentary front crawl with rotary breathing, a rudimentary breaststroke, elementary backstroke, back crawl and sidestroke.

YSL FISH
Age 6 years and up Main Pool. Intermediate work on refining a front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke.

YSL FLYINGFISH
Age 6 years and up Main Pool. For the advanced swimmer, class builds increased efficiency and endurance in the six basic strokes with an introduction to flip turns, starts and pullouts.

YSL SHARK
Age 6 years and up Main Pool. The advanced swimmer refines his/her strokes and learns the concepts of competitive swimming while building endurance.

 

YSL PORPOISE
Age 10 years and up The accomplished swimmer ventures into character development and leadership training in this return of an oldie but a goodie program. Students will receive a 45-minute instructional session followed by a 30-minute assistant teaching session. Participants will refine their own abilities as well as learn how to assist teaching swim lessons, all the while reinforcing the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.


PRIVATE SWIMMING LESSONS
Age 3 years and up Small or Main pool by arrangement. Private Swimming Lessons are an optimal way to learn how to swim. Details and pricing information are available at our Front Desk or call Jeff at 508-362-6500 x103

SWIM LESSONS FOR CHALLENGED YOUTH
Age 6 years and up Small & Main Pool. This instructional and recreational program is customized to the special needs of your swimmer.


MAKO SWIM TEAM

Competitive Age Group Swimming for ages 6 to 18 The Mako Swim Team offers five different team levels: Novice, Age Group, Junior, Senior and National. The Y Mako Swim Team competes in both YMCA and USA Swimming to develop swimmers to their fullest potential through use of proper stroke technique, challenging workouts, and a strong team atmosphere. The program incorporates discipline, character development, skills, training, and endurance swimming as competitors advance through the progressive level program.

Swimmers interested in our Novice program must be able to swim freestyle and backstroke. In order to be a part of the Team, swimmers must be at least 6 years old and able to exhibit good swimming skills and a variety of competitive techniques. Maturity, conditioning and ability will help determine a swimmers level.
